Buy the bookSteamed Artichokes and Cauliflower Pasta - april 15, 2014

The very first artichoke is ready to harvest from a plant in my garden. It is the only survivor of an entire packet of seeds that I started three years ago, so a celebration is in order! My daughter has asked to eat the little darling steamed with butter sauce.

Celery Root Chowder - february 27, 2014

Still an old favorite, from Deborah Madison's Local Flavors, p. 209. I make it whenever we have celery root and serve it with a good loaf of bread and our favorite cheese from Cowgirl Creamery. A scoop of wild rice goes into the bowl before the chowder, which suits my new found passion for serving deliciously prepared whole grains. For more info, see my post on this meal.

It ran years ago in the SF Chronicle. Pork, tomatillos and beans are the main ingredients. We like to eat it with Deborah Madison's Buttermilk Skillet Cornbread, from Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, p. 647.

Here is a recipe from Simply Recipes that is basically the same as the one I use from the SF Chronicle. Pork, tomatillos and beans are the main ingredients. Deborah Madison's Buttermilk Skillet Cornbread goes well alongside, from Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, p. 647.

Pork, tomatillos and beans are the main ingredients. Deborah Madison's Buttermilk Skillet Cornbread is my favorite cornbread recipe, from Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, p. 647.

Pesto Pasta - may 24, 2013

Yes, it's that old thing again. I know, I know, feeding my children pasta two nights in a row isn't the best, but sometimes there is just no time for anything else. And besides, I know my kids will always eat this one. At least they won't go to bed hungry and wake up cranky.

Deborah Madison's new book is really quite good, I love all her writing on the actual veggie plants themselves: it's a kitchen and garden go-between.
