This time we really did cook our hot dogs over an open campfire and warmed the beans I'd made (at home the day before) in a pot on the coleman stove. I like the beans - a homemade version of my old favorite "Husband Pleasin Ranch Style". The sauce has more texture than I remember the canned version, but with a quick rinse under the faucet they get a step closer.

Sadly, they are not too popular with my kids, though. "Too spicy," they said, even though I only used 3 chili peppers and removed all the seeds. Sigh.

...from last time...

"Husband Pleasin" beans were a part of my childhood too, and I'm so glad someone else has worked out the details of replicating their recipe at home, since I have not encountered a single can on Bay Area shelves during my 18 years here. To make us feel like real cowboys, I'd probably serve the beans on flour tortillas instead of passing out forks.
