Helga's Meatballs & Gravy with Carrot-Apple Mashed Potatoes
march 9, 2015
Helga is Marcus Samuelson's grandmother, and since my own grandmother has no recipe for meatballs, what better way to celebrate National Meatball Day than to use her's?
I also made the Carrot-Apple Mashed Potatoes to go along, which were good, but not my children's favorite. But one of my kids ate them anyway, and both asked for "regular mashed potatoes," which is exciting because neither of the has ever voluntarily eaten mashed potatoes before.
I'll take that. And I even found lingonberry preserves at our local grocery store. Otherwise I would have just used strawberry jam. I'll call it a successful family dinner! Served with braised cabbage, Helga's Meatballs & Gravy with Carrot-Apple Mashed Potatoes are from p. 228 of Marcus Off Duty: The Recipes I Cook at Home.
