Back Pocket Pasta with Pork and MizunaBack Pocket Pasta with Pork & Mizuna
november 8, 2015

Jenny Rosenstrach's Back Pocket Pasta recipe is a great way to get dinner on the table really quickly without prepping ahead. I added ground pork for protein and mizuna from this week's CSA box, instead of tossing a salad. It's not the most generous serving of vegetables, but then that isn't the point.

Pasta with Meatballs and Farmer' CheesePasta with Lisa Leake's Meatballs
february 11, 2015

We love meatballs at my house and these are good! More carrots than usual, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. I served them with Nigel's Naked Sauce from Eatwell Farm and our son Gus' Farmstead Cheese, which he made at Louella Hill's Cheesemaking for Kids Class.

Macaroni CasseroleLisa Leake's Macaroni Casserole
february 5, 2015

Walks like a duck, talks like a duck. I'm going to call this macaroni and cheese and add it to my quest for the perfect recipe. This one calls for 1 cup of "add-ins", like  frozen peas or chopped steamed broccoli. Knowing my kids' abhorrence for the peas I add to chicken pot pie, I asked for their input. Surprisingly, my vegetable-averse son asked for steamed cabbage.

Alfredo with ShrimpLisa Leake's Alfredo with Shrimp
february 4, 2015

Shrimp cook fast. Shrimp are high in protein. Shrimp taste good. I usually only need two good reasons to do something, so that's enough for me! This recipe has the added bonus of using spinach, which is a frequent part of our weekly CSA box. And it makes whole wheat pasta tolerable. That's five reasons to make it for dinner. Five!

Roast Chicken with CouscousRoast Chicken with Vinaigrette & Couscous
january 19, 2015

Marcus Samuelsson says the herbs in this meal remind him of working in Switzerland, which is a beautiful image. My version of this meal reminds me of California, because it's not very often that I find as many locally produced items in one big bowl as in this one.

Mac & Cheese & GreensMac & Cheese & Greens
january 15, 2015

1 stick of butter, 3 cups of cream, 1 cup whole milk, 1 pound of cheese, 6 slices of bacon, crème fraiche, coconut milk, olive oil, 1 pound of pasta and some collards go into this most decadent mac and cheese. Divine, yes. Healthy, no. Unless you are a cyclist who burns as many calories as my husband does.

20150108-MacSmButternut Mac & Cheese
january 8, 2015

We've been trying to recreate the perfect mac and cheese ever since discovering it at my favorite NYC restaurant this past summer.  My kids are now mac and cheese connoisseurs, and while this particular recipe didn't meet the ultimate goal, it did fulfill another long sought dream: squash pasta they will actually eat.

Carrot & Zucchini Ribbon PastaCarrot & Zucchini Ribbon Pasta
September 23, 2014

This is a quick and easy dinner that does well for kids who like carrots, zucchini, one or the other, or neither. The ribbons are barely cooked, which is a plus for most kids, and they are easily removed by picky eaters.

Yes! More end of summer tomatoes for dinner! This is my favorite time of year. Tomatoes, basil, melons, peppers! All the produce I need to pretend I live in Italy.

Spaghetti with Cherry TomatoesSpaghetti with Cherry Tomatoes
september 13, 2014

Another quick and easy pasta dish for late summer, or any other time you can find good cherry tomatoes (which is most of the time). These little sweeties do better in colder weather, so not only will they grow in my foggy garden, but just about anywhere else that isn't below freezing, too.

Spaghetti with Raw Tomato Sauce

Spaghetti with Raw Tomato Sauce
september 3, 2014

This is a favorite recipe that both my kids love, which is highly unusual. Most of the time one loves it and the other hates it. But in this case, they both ask for "that pasta with grated sauce" whenever we have tomatoes on the kitchen counter.

Pasta, Peas, Potatoes & PestoPasta, Peas, Potatoes & Pesto
may 12, 2014

We've had some rainbow striped bowtie pasta hanging around the house for a while now and this recipe from Eatwell Farm was the perfect way to use it. Pasta, potatoes and pesto are already favorites of my children, so as expected, they ate this dinner up. The pesto recipe is different than what I'm used to: rougher textured but just right in this case.
